ARTIST BIO
Leah Ying Lin (林瑛) is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist working across kinetic sculpture, immersive installation, creative coding, and performance. She combines hand-built and glazed ceramics, metal, and glass with embedded systems that generate movement, projection-mapped imagery, light, and sound. Breathing mechanisms and responsive elements animate these hybrid forms. These forms hover between fabricated objects and living organisms.
Lin approaches sculpture as a form of speculative archaeology, creating objects and environments that appear to come from imagined futures. She describes this temporal and relational practice as “slow sculpture”: works that unfold through movement, projected imagery, pneumatic breathing, responsive sound, and viewer participation, inviting sustained attention rather than a single glance.
Her distinctly futuristic visual language and projects often begin with research into planetary exploration, interstellar objects, space debris, and aerospace technologies. Lin approaches outer space not as an escape from Earth, but as a natural environment into which humans extend the same systems of desire, power, territorial ambition, and waste. Through speculative cosmic mythologies and ecologies, her work examines how conquest, extraction, and technological expansion reshape bodies, territories, and environments on Earth and beyond. Questions of displacement and cultural translation remain a quieter undercurrent.
Lin’s work has been exhibited in New York, Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, Rome, and Kyoto, including presentations at Arsenal Contemporary Art, Alisan Fine Arts, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, MAAM Museum, and Untitled Art Fair.
She has also appeared in campaigns as Lead Model/Artist for Balenciaga, Moncler, and Coach and has been featured in Vogue and V Magazine. Lin received her M.Arch. from the Rhode Island School of Design and later studied lighting design in Rome and ceramic sculpture in Kyoto. She completed an artist residency with Silver Art Projects at the World Trade Center from May 2025 to June 2026. She is also one of four artists selected for the Works in Public Program to create a public sculpture for Riverside Park South in Manhattan in 2028.
