ABOUT THE ARTIST
Leah Ying Lin (林瑛) is a visual artist and art director based in New York. In 2019, she graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in Architecture, and also studied abroad in Rome for lighting design and in Kyoto for ceramics sculpture. Leah's works have been exhibited in Rome, Kyoto, Providence, New York, and Los Angeles. Her work as an art director for independent short films has been nominated/awarded by various prestigious international film festivals. Owing to her multidisciplinary practice, Leah Ying Lin has a presence within the high-fashion circle, representing global campaigns such as Balenciaga and being featured in Vogue, V Magazine, etc.
Leah's artistic themes delve into the exploration of human desire for conquest, the fragility of life, machinery and nature, the tension between destruction and resurrection. Her work challenges the notion of an "ideal" society, forces us to confront our ironic pursuit of ultimate happiness, and echoes the anxieties in the current political and post-pandemic environment. Leah's interest in the contrast between the transient and the eternal is evident in her fascination with the ephemeral nature of life and her investigation of cyclical and perpetual themes.
In her 2020 New York Solo Exhibition - Happy Living, Happy Life, Leah created a series of works that include sculptures, installations, short films, and performances to create a surrealistic spectacle. In 2023, Leah Ying Lin began to focus on a new series of futuristic kinetic sculpture, rooted in the realm of Surrealist Techno-Feminism. Her new works imagine the late stage of the world and explore the interplay between human bodies and machinery, flesh and consciousness, and the processes of rebirth and reconstruction.
